Charge Launch Virtual 5K to Benefit Akron-Canton Foodbank
CANTON, OH - The Canton Charge will launch a socially distant way to stay in shape while helping out a great cause with the team's Charge to the Finish Virtual 5K race, beginning on Friday, October 9th and running through Sunday, October 11th. Presented by IGA, proceeds from the Charge to the Finish 5K will benefit the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.
"While we wait for the Charge to get back to playing on the court, we wanted to get things going off the court with a fun event to do some good for the terrific Canton & Stark County community we've been fortunate to be part of these past nine years," said Cleveland Cavaliers Franchise Operations COO Mike Ostrowski.
Whether you run, walk or bike... it doesn't matter! Join the Charge from anywhere on the planet to help our community when it needs it most! Sign up now for our 5K "Finisher Package" that includes your race admission, an exclusive Charge Virtual 5K t-shirt and a ticket to a future Charge game for only $25. Race-only registration is available for a $10 donation to the Foodbank.
Once you're registered, you and your road crew can practice social distancing while you get your race in any way you can on the weekend of October 9th-11th --- walk or run the 5K or bike the 11.78 miles. Participants can record their results with their favorite fitness app and then enter a screenshot of their time/results to be considered for prizes. Participants can also share their race footage with the Charge on social media for a chance to be featured on their channels and to be entered for additional prizes.
All the fun to be had is made even better for helping the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank and all the wonderful work they do in our community. The Foodbank provides food and other essential items to 500 pantries, hot meal sites, shelters and other hunger-relief programs in eight Northeast Ohio counties. As the coronavirus has severely impacted local communities, the Foodbank has seen a significant increase in need as families struggle to make ends meet. Approximately 30 percent of families visiting pantries within the Foodbank's network are visiting for the very first time.
The Foodbank continues to serve as a resource for the region because of the generosity of local supporters. This race will help ensure families in need will have access to nourishing food. When every $1 donated to the Foodbank helps provide the equivalent of 4 meals, you have the opportunity to make a significant impact.

The Canton Charge are part of the Cleveland Cavaliers organization and are also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Chairman and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert. The group also owns and operates the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League, who play their games at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in downtown Cleveland.
