Charge Finalize Coaching Staff

October 16, 2019 - NBA G League (G League) - Canton Charge News Release

CANTON, OH - The Canton Charge, powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, have finalized their coaching staff for the 2019-20 season. Head Coach Nate Reinking will be joined by new Assistant Coaches Kendall Chones and Bryan Tibaldi, while Tyler Neal has been promoted to Assistant Coach and Austin Peterson has been promoted to Assistant Coach/Video Coordinator.

"Bryan and Kendall are great additions to this staff who fit right in with our culture of strong development from the ground up," said Reinking. "You can tell that our staff 'gets it' and will put in all the work it takes to help players grow and succeed."

Chones comes to Canton after serving the last three years as the youth basketball development manager and director of the Cavs Academy. Chones was an integral part of the Cavs Youth Sports leadership team that brought all programs in-house, grew the Jr. Cavs to include over 20,000 area youth participants and created an online resource guide for volunteer coaches. The son of Cleveland Cavaliers Legend Jim Chones, Kendall also played and coached professionally for eight seasons overseas, mostly in Germany, Finland and Israel. The Pepper Pike native was a four-year letterman at Colgate University where he played in 114 career games and was the 12th player in school history to join the 1,000 points/500 rebounds club.

Tibaldi comes to Canton after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Cleveland State University. Prior to joining the Vikings, he spent two years as the director of basketball operations for DePaul University and four years in various roles at Missouri. Tibaldi also has NBA experience in the video room and front office with the Chicago Bulls from 2009-11. A 2007 graduate of Michigan State, Tibaldi was a two-year letterman after joining the Spartans as a walk-on. He also got his master's degree from MSU after serving as a graduate assistant on Tom Izzo's staff from 2007-09.

Neal enters his third season as a full-time assistant coach with the Charge after joining the team during the 2016-17 season as a basketball operations assistant/video coordinator. He spent the prior two seasons before joining the Charge at the University of Akron, where he was a coaching graduate assistant and video coordinator. Neal played four years at Bluffton University, where he was a team captain as a senior.

Peterson enters his eighth year with the Charge after joining the team as a ball boy in their inaugural 2011-12 season while attending Louisville High School. Austin worked his way up to video coordinator last season after also serving as a coaching assistant and basketball operations intern previously. The Baldwin-Wallace graduate also spent a season as a basketball operations intern with the Charlotte Hornets under Steve Clifford during the 2015-16 season. Austin also serves as the head coach of the Cavs Legion NBA 2K League team.
