Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI (Jan. 29, 2007) - The Wave has signed defender Chad Dombrowski to a contract through the 2007-08 season, the team announced today.
Dombrowski signed two 15-day contracts with the Wave this season, then briefly went to Europe. In those stints for the Wave he scored four 2-point goals and added an assist in 10 games. He played in 49 games for the Wave over two seasons prior to this year. He scored five goals, all in 2005-06, and added four assists and 33 blocks.
"He's a four-year MISL veteran, won a championship with the Wave and was the defensive MVP for the Minnesota Thunder this past summer in the United Soccer League," said Keith Tozer, Wave head coach and vice president of soccer operations. "It's great to have him back. He brings experience, toughness and he can generate points from the back, also."
Dombrowski started 74 games for UW-Milwaukee from 1999 to 2002, and was named second-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of American in 2002. he was a first-team all-Horizon League player his last two seasons at UWM.
To make room for Dombrowski, the Wave released rookie goalkeeper Kyle Trimble. The Whitefish Bay native had not played in a game this season. Last week the Wave had signed 2005-06 MISL Goalkeeper of the Year Brett Phillips to work in tandem with Nick Vorberg, giving the Wave three keepers on the roster. Dombrowski's signing put the team over the roster limit.
"It's very unfortunate that Kyle had to be released," Tozer said. "He's a good, up-and-coming young keeper, but in order to make that final push for the playoffs, we wanted someone with Brett's experience along with Nick."
