FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2002 - REGULAR SEASON WEEK 17 - GAME #79

WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS 35 AT CALGARY STAMPEDERS 20 – 30,776 - TSN

Calgary had an opportunity to stay in the playoff hunt with a win, but could not defeat the visiting Blue Bombers. Milt Stegall began the scoring with his CFL leading 20th TD from Khari Jones (21 yards) at 10:09 of the 1st. Westwood made the convert. Mark McLoughlin put 3 on the board for Calgary with a monstrous 46 yard FG at 12:44 of the 1st. Troy Westwood kicked back for Calgary with a 44 yard FG at 5:49 of the 2nd. McLoughlin scored back to back FG's for Calgary, the first from 26 yards at 14:00 and the second from 34 yards at 15:00 of the 2nd Quarter. Stegall scored another TD from a 26 yard Jones pass at 2:56 of the 3rd. This TD tied a CFL record for most TD's in a single season set by Allan Pitts. Westwood made the convert. McLoughlin scored a single on a 33 yard missed FG at 4:32 of the 3rd. Westwood hit an 11 yard FG at 11:20 of the 3rd to add to Winnipeg's lead. McLoughlin tried to keep his team alive with a 14 yard FG at 15:00 of the 3rd. Stegall pass Pitts' record with a 14 yard pass reception TD from Jones at 3:49 of the 4th. Westwood made the convert. Wane McGarity scored for Calgary on a 37 yard TD reception from Ben Sankey at 6:48 of the 4th. McLoughlin made the convert. Arland Bruce caught a 52 yard Jones pass at 9:08 of the 4th for the score. Westwood made the convert. Westwood finished with a 49 yard missed FG single at 12:38 of the 4th.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2002 - REGULAR SEASON WEEK 17 – GAME #80

BRITISH COLUMBIA LIONS 11 AT SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS 13 – 24,957 - CBC

The Roughriders fought hard for a win against the powerful Lions. Although they are tied in total points the Rider win relegates BC to 4th in the West while Saskatchewan slides into 3rd. Matt Kellett scored for BC at 8:07 of the 1st on a 52 yard missed FG single. Paul McCallum shot back with a 54 yard FG to give Saskatchewan the lead at 9:30 of the 1st. McCallum hit another FG at 3:23 of the 2nd from 40 yards. Kellett gave the Lions 3 more with a 30 yard FG at 9:21 of the 2nd. Chris Szarka marched 1 yard for the major at 12:04 of the 3rd to develop the 'Rider lead. McCallum hit the convert. Anthony Martino made a 61 yard punt single at 13:44 of the 3rd for BC. BC would score a last minute TD at 15:00 of the 4th on a 12 yard pass from Damon Allen to Bret Anderson. The 2 point convert was attempted to tie the game but the Lions fell short.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2002 - REGULAR SEASON WEEK 17 - GAME #81

HAMILTON TIGER-CATS 29 AT MONTREAL ALOUETTES 26 – 20,002 – TSN

Montreal is chasing first overall while Hamilton needed the win to stave off the pursuing Toronto Argonauts. Osbaldiston's temporary replacement, Dana Segin, hit a 22 yard FG to put the Cats up by 3 at 2:15 of the 1st. Lawrence Phillips retaliated with a 1 yard TD run for Montreal at 6:11 of the 1st. Terry Baker made the convert. Tony Miles caught a 51 yard TD pass from Danny McManus for a Hamilton lead at 12:42 of the 1st. Dana Segin made the convert. Dana Segin made consecutive FG's, from 12 yards at 0:38 of the 2nd and from 27 yards at 4:40 of the 2nd. Baker knocked in a FG from 40 yards for the Als at 8:56 to keep his boys in the game. Segin made a comeback with a 22 yard FG at 13:18 of the 2nd. Baker nailed consecutive kicks from 42 yards at 2:15 of the 3rd and from 44 yards at 6:05 of the 3rd. Troy Davis added to Hamilton's lead with a 1 yard TD run at 10:24 of the 3rd. Segin made the convert. Baker hit another FG at 14:17 of the 3rd from 32 yards for the Alouettes. Segin took the field at 4:29 and casually knocked in a 20 yard FG (his 5th on the day). Montreal tried to fight back when Stephen Fortin recovered a Hamilton fumble and ran it 47 yards for the TD at 13:51 of the 4th. Baker made the convert.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2002 - REGULAR SEASON WEEK 17 - GAME #82

OTTAWA RENEGADES 12 AT TORONTO ARGONAUTS 29 - 24,932 - TSN

Although Ottawa had already been eliminated from playoffs with Hamilton's win earlier in the day, the Argos still had a lot to play for. Noel Prefontaine hit an 18 yard FG at 3:25 of the 1st for Toronto. He followed that performance with a 59 yard punt single at 7:13 of the 1st. Lawrence Tynes hit a 32 yard FG for the 'Gades at 11:13 of the 1st. Prefontaine scored another single on a 50 yard missed FG at 12:42 of the 1st. Damon Hodge snagged a 34 yard Dan Crowley TD pass at 14:22 of the 1st. Cory Annett blocked the ensuing convert and Adrion Smith raced 67 yards to score a 2 point convert for Toronto. Robert Drummond forced his way 1 yard for the TD at 4:15 of the 2nd. Prefontaine made the convert. Prefontaine made a 12 yard FG at 11:52 of the 2nd. Tynes answered with a 21 yard FG at 14:07 of the 2nd. Mohammed Ali highlighted the halftime extravaganza in a courageous fight against Parkinson's disease, and then it was back to football. Prefontaine scored the only points in the 3rd and the 4th. He hit four consecutive FG's. The first, from 17 yards at 5:13 of the 3rd. Then again from 17 yards at 0:39 of the 4th. Then from 19 yards at 4:34 of the 4th, and finally from 17 yards at 14:19 of the 4th.
