Celebrating Mickey Renaud Day
February 18, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Windsor Spitfires News Release
Each year, the Windsor Spitfires Hockey Club honor Mickey Renaud. Keeping with the team's tradition of 'Enhancing Lives, Improving Our Community', and in celebration of Family Day, number 18 will always hold a special place in our hearts. On May 25th, 2020 in memory of Mickey Renaud, the Renaud family, in conjunction with the Windsor Spitfires, donated $10,000.00 to the Windsor Covid Relief Fund through the Windsor Essex Community Foundation (WECF). The donation originated from a benefactor who was greatly impacted by Mickey's passing. Mickey was proud to play for the Windsor Spitfires and always represented his team and hometown with great pride and distinction. He would be honoured to know he was an inspiration to such a significant donation. The donation assisted the WECF with reaching the most vulnerable people in the Windsor-Essex community, and helped the community meet their needs during these most difficult times. Last year we introduced the "extended family", our billets, to join in this tradition. People that graciously open their homes and families to our players...a very special moment. Following in the steps of our captain Mickey Renaud, the Windsor Spitfires Foundation take great pride giving back to local charity groups, to date over $550 thousand dollars. The Foundation works closely with these organizations in identifying needs within our communities, and these monies support community programming. This past summer, the Spitfires "Family" donated $100,000 to assist local families with children in the Ontario Works Program. "When it comes to giving, there is no better community than Windsor. The Windsor Spitfires family is proud to do what we can to support those who need it most at this very trying time." Brian Schwab, Stephen and John Savage, Bob Boughner and the Windsor Spitfires Organization believe, "Giving is not just about making a donation, it's about making a difference."
We love you and Miss you. Our Captain Forever. #MickeyRenaudDay.
