Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

HARLINGEN - In his first start as a WhiteWing, pitcher Juan Cedeño shut down the Edinburg Roadrunners, allowing no earned runs while striking out eight batters through seven innings as the WhiteWings won 5-2 on Wednesday night at Harlingen Field.

After two runs - both unearned - crossed the plate in the first inning to put the WhiteWings (47-31) down early, Cedeño went into shutdown mode, allowing no runs through his final six innings on the mound.

Cedeño (3-0, 5.50 ERA) earns the win while Jose Pablo Oyervidez (2-1, 2.95 ERA) is charged with the loss for the Roadrunners (31-48).

Down by two in the bottom of the first inning, the WhiteWings responded by scoring runs off of a Wilmer Pino RBI groundout and a Leivi Ventura sac fly to tie the score at 2.

In the third, Leivi Ventura broke the tie by hitting an RBI single to score the go-ahead run to put the WhiteWings on top 3-2.

Those were all the runs the WhiteWings needed as Cedeño did not allow any more runs to cross the plate.

The WhiteWings are back in action Thursday night at Harlingen Field as Eric Blackwell (7-3, 3.08 ERA) is expected to take the mound for the 'Wings.
