Johnson City Doughboys News Release

JOHNSON CITY, TN - The Johnson City Cardinals defeated the Pulaski Yankees on Saturday night 7-3. With the win, the Cardinals moved to 8-8 on the season and pull to one game back of first place.

Oneiver Diaz got the start for the Cardinals on Saturday night but left too early in the game to be part of the decision. Diaz pitched two innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs, walking two and striking out one.

After the Cardinals surrendered two first inning runs to the Yankees, their bats got going as well. The Cardinals scored four in the second after back-to-back-to-back walks to Nolan Gorman, Kevin Woodall, and Zach Jackson. Carlos Soto then hit a two-run single to right field, Gorman and Woodall would score to tie the game at two. Later on that inning, with the bases loaded, Leandro Cedeno drew a bases loaded walk to score Carlos Soto.

The Cardinals then put two on the board in the third inning. Kevin Woodall started the inning with a lead-off single. After Zach Jackson struck out, Carlos Soto doubled and Woodall reached third. With runners on second and third and two outs, Jonatan Machado hit an RBI single to score Woodall and Soto to make the score 6-2.

After both teams were shut out in the fourth inning, and the Yankees scored one in the top of the fifth, the Cardinals answered. In the bottom of the fifth, Zach Jackson singled to lead-off the fifth inning. Carlos Soto then doubled to put runners on second and third. With one out, Jonatan Machado singled and Jackson scored the last run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Cardinals went on to win 7-3. Jake Sylvester got the win, when he came in to relieve Oneiver Diaz. Sylvester pitched 2.2 innings, while allowing two hits, one earned run, and he also tallied two strikeouts.

The Cardinals used three more pitchers after Sylvester; Parker Kelly, Junior Gonzalez, and Colin Schmid.

The Cardinals are home for a seven game homestand, two more games remain against Pulaski and then a four game homestand against Elizabethton. Come out for special days, Dollar Monday (7/9), Taco Tuesday (7/10), All You Can Eat Wednesday (7/11), Thirsty Thursday (7/12), and then Friday Fireworks on 7/13.
