Captains Lose Fifth Straight 8-4

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH) - The Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated the Lake County Captains by a score of 8-4 on Saturday afternoon at Classic Park. Bowling Green erupted for four runs in the top of the third inning. Bowling Green had four hits in the inning and was sitting on a 6-0 lead at the end of two.
In the first, The Captains took the early lead. Luigi Rodriguez led off the game with a double to the gap in left center. Francisco Lindor singled up the middle and the Captains were out in front 1-0.
In the second Inning the Hot Rods answered when Cameron Seitzer led off with a single and then Tyler Motter Homered to left field. Motter also singled and doubled on his afternoon. Bowling Green tacked on two in the top of the fifth inning and led the ball game 8-1 heading to the bottom half of the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Captains got a bit closer. Bryson Myles led off with a single to left field. Luigi Rodriguez then tripled Myles home. Alex Monsalve singled in Rodriguez and the score stood at 8-3. The Captains also scored one in the bottom of the ninth when Lindor and Monsalve teamed up again to get the Captains in the scorebook. Lindor beat out an infield single and then cruised home on the Monsalve double to left field. The final was 8-4.
Captains starter Joe Colon (1-1) was saddled with the loss. Colon pitched 2.2 innings and gave up six hits. He allowed six runs, five earned. Colon allowed two free passes and struck out only one. Colon also allowed a homerun in the game. Grant Sides entered and allowed two earned runs in 2.1 IP on three hits. Mason Radeke and Kyle Petter entered the games and both hurled 2.0 scoreless innings each.
The Hot Rods starting pitcher Ryan Carpenter (1-1) picked up the win after hurling five innings and gave up eight hits, allowing three earned runs all were earned and he added seven strikeouts. The Hot Rods Bullpen combined for four innings of one run baseball to preserve the win over the Captains for the third straight game.
The Captains and Hot Rods conclude series on Sunday afternoon April 14 at 1:00 PM at Classic Park. The Captains begin celebrating the start of their 10th season in northeast Ohio by welcoming the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Rays) to town. The Captains will send RHP Cody Allen (0-0, 2.25) to the mound against LHP Ryan Carpenter (0-1, 5.14) The game can be heard on ESPN Radio AM 970 WFUN and online at captainsbaseball.com.
