Capitols Team up with the Madison Reading Project for "DC's Reading Challenge"
Middleton, WI - The Madison Capitols and The Madison Reading Project are partnering together to launch "DC's Reading Challenge", beginning on Thursday, February 14th. The challenge aims to encourage the development of critical reading skills in elementary schools across the Greater Madison area. In conjunction with the Madison Reading Project, "DC's Reading Challenge" is a bingo-style board of different reading activities, where upon completing the activities, the student will receive a special discount to the Capitols game on Sunday, March 17th at 2:05pm. The challenge is being supported by Westbury Bank, Kwik Trip and Steve Brown Apartments, proud sponsors of the program and game night.
Over the next month, Capitols players will read to over 10 schools, 100 classrooms, and 2000+ students.
"We are thrilled to enter into this partnership with the Madison Reading Project. It is imperative for our players to be active in our local schools and do our small part to encourage the love of reading in these students," president Andrew Joudrey noted. "Our players are excited to interact with these students and inspire them to achieve their reading potential, while having some fun with DC's Reading Challenge."
On Sunday, March 17th at 2:05pm, the Capitols host the Youngstown Phantoms at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena. Students completing the challenge will each receive a special prize upon their arrival at the arena. In addition, the Capitols will be hosting their 4th annual Star Wars appearance at the game. Members of Lucas Films' Star Franchise will be in attendance from the 501st Legion Wisconsin Garrison for photo opportunities with fans. There will also be a postgame skate with Capitols players and as always, DC Eagle.
"This new partnership allows us to promote the Capitols and give back to our local schools while supporting a great organization like the Madison Reading Project," stated Joudrey.
In addition, fans will have the opportunity to donate new or lightly used books for the Capitols Book Drive, and any donating fan will receive a Capitols prize.
Individual and group tickets are already on sale for the game. For groups, enter the password "CAPSREAD". We are proud and excited to be supporting a great cause, and we hope to encourage students in the area to read, learn, and have fun doing so!
The Madison Reading Project is dedicated to collecting and selecting books that are exciting, engaging, and diverse for age levels from birth to teenagers. They also distribute books at schools, community centers, homeless shelters, and many other locations where children and families visit. Recognizing that a child has more potential to improve skills and enthusiasm for reading when books are accessible in multiple places in a community, the Madison Reading Project provides books for individuals to keep and cherish, Furthermore, the organization provides programming opportunities where reading together and developing literacy and learning skills are enhanced.
