Omaha Lancers News Release
Ralston, NE - Two late second-period goals helped the Capitols walk out of Ralston Arena with a 4-0 lead on Friday night.
Daniel Lebedeff, making his second start of the season, recorded 32 saves on the way to his first career shutout. Mick Messner, Eetu Selanne, and Kamil Sadolcha all had multipoint nights for the Capitols. Jacob Acton, making his third appearance in three games, had 21 saves on 24 shots.
With the score deadlocked at 0-0 after twenty minutes of play the Lancers came out firing in the second period. After being outshot 14-2 to start the period Madison's offense took advantage of an opportunity when Billy Jerry scored at 15:28 to give Madison their first lead. Just over two and a half minutes later the Capitols added another. Vincent De Mey cut across the net mouth trying to tuck the puck around the toe of Acton. After making the first two saves Acton could not get to the puck as Nick Austin crashed down from the point and buried the shot into the empty net. Madison led 2-0 after two.
In the third the Lancers had a strong start to the period once again but were unable to beat Lebedeff. A 5-on-3 power-play goal from Phillip Nyberg paired with an empty netter from Selanne pushed the lead to 4-0 before the final horn sounded.
The Lancers drop to 0-3-0 on the season while Madison moves to 1-1-0. Omaha travels to Des Moines tomorrow night to take on the Buccaneers.
