Bulls Sweep Doubleheader, Series over Bats

DURHAM, NC - Led by back-to-back homers in game one and clutch hitting in game two, the Durham Bulls swept the Louisville Bats with doubleheader wins 6-4 and 4-1 Thursday night at the DBAP.

The continuation of the postponed middle frame of the three-game series resumed in the bottom of the fourth with the Bulls on top 3-0.

The damage was done in the bottom of the third, when three runs scored on two hits and two errors. Kean Wong knocked an RBI double, and two errors on one play by Bats' second baseman Dilson Herrera scored a pair of runs.

The Bulls picked up where they left off after the delay, posting three runs on four hits including back-to-back homers by Jeremy Hazelbaker and Andrew Velazquez, extending the lead to 6-0 through four innings.

The bullpen allowed four runs on five hits. Andrew Kittredge (W, 1-0) earned his first victory of the season, tossing 3.0 innings allowing one run on one hit while fanning two. Ian Gibaut (S, 2) worked 1.1 innings clean to secure his second save.

In game two, the home team found themselves down 1-0 after a solo shot by Herrera in the first.

Durham erased the one-run deficit in the home-half of the frame, moving in front 4-1 on an RBI single by Joe McCarthy, an RBI groundout by Hazelbaker and a two-RBI single to left from Adam Moore.

Vidal Nuño (W, 3-1) earned his third win of the season and has allowed two earned runs over his last 11.2 innings, with 13 strikeouts. He has won his last two decisions.

Durham (24-14) begins a three-game series against the Indianapolis Indians (20-17) at Durham Bulls Athletic Park Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
