Bullpen Depth Acquired with Cooper Signing
May 23, 2018 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Ottawa Champions News Release
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Champions made a slight change to their bullpen Tuesday afternoon, inking Canadian RHP ANDREW COOPER to a contract. The team has also placed RHP RYAN LEACH on the disabled list retroactive to May 18.
Leach, a right-hander from Farmingdale, ME, suffered an arm injury in his only appearance of the 2018 season on May 18. He must remain on the disabled list for one week as per Can-Am League rules.
He pitched two innings on May 18 versus the Trois-Rivieres Aigles, not allowing a hit or run in his only outing of the season. After signing with the Champions, the sidearm reliever has now played for all three Can-Am League teams based north of the border.
Cooper, a Belle River, Ont. native, is a familiar face around Ottawa. He gets a second opportunity as a Champion, returning to the roster after suffering an illness last summer.
Cooper and the rest of the Champions will be in action when they engage in the final game of their three-game tango with the New Jersey Jackals Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
