Bulldogs Come up Short in 4-2 Loss to Sarnia

January 29, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

HAMILTON, ONTARIO. Anticipation was high Sunday night as two of the top teams in Canada hooked up at FirstOntario Centre and the Hamilton Bulldogs and Sarnia Sting didn't disappoint.

High energy was on display by both teams in the 1st period with just one goal scored as the Sting took advantage of a give-a-way at the Hamilton blueline to make it 1-0.

The Bulldogs Brandon Saigeon (27) scored 48-seconds into the 3rd period to tie the game 1-1. Sarnia took a 2-1 lead at 7:14 with a power-play goal only to see Hamilton rookie Arthur Kaliyev (21) score a highlight reel goal about five minutes later to make it 2-2 after two periods.

Hamilton threw everything they had at Sarnia goalie Justin Fazio in the 3rd period as they out-shot the visitors 16-6, but came up empty only see Adam Ruzicka take advantage of a mix-up behind the Bulldogs net for the game winner. Ruzicka then got the insurance goal into the empty net in the final minute to make the final 4-2 Sting.

3 STARS: 1). Justin Fazio (SAR) 2). Adam Ruzicka (SAR) 3). Brandon Saigeon (HAM)

The loss snaps Hamilton's 4-game winning streak and sees their season record drop to 31-11-3-3.

The Bulldogs next game is Thursday, February 1st as they face the Petes in Peterborough with the next home game at FirstOntario Centre Saturday February 3rd at 7 pm against Mississauga.
