Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

Urbandale (IA) The United States Hockey League announced on Monday that Des Moines Buccaneers' goaltender Jason Kasdorf has been named the league's goaltender of the week.

Kasdorf posted a 1.01 goals-against-average, .937 save percentage and two shutouts over three games for the Buccaneers. He stopped all 46 shots he faced in a 6-0 win vs. Omaha on Thanksgiving Eve and the 46 save performance is a single-game high in the USHL this season. He followed that up with a 26 save outing in a loss at Chicago on Friday but rebounded for a 36-save shutout vs. Dubuque on Saturday.

The week capped a solid month of November for the goaltender from Winnipeg, MB as he went 5-2 with a 2.01 GAA and .940 save percentage. Those numbers characterize a performance that has been an important part in a stretch where the Buccaneers have won seven of their last ten and moved up the ladder in the tightly compressed Western Conference.

Kasdorf's three shutouts for the season are best in the USHL and he becomes the first Bucs' player this season to earn one of the league's weekly awards.

Kasdorf is in his first season in the USHL but previously played Junior A hockey in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. It was there that he first caught the attention of collegiate and professional scouts, earning a scholarship to Division I Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and impressing the Atlanta Thrashers (now Winnipeg Jets) enough for them to draft him in June.

The Buccaneers (8-7-1) are back home for two games this weekend when they face Sioux City on Friday and Team USA (U-17) on Saturday with face-off both nights scheduled for 7pm. Friday night will feature the annual Teddy Bear Toss as fans are encouraged to bring new stuffed animals to the game. After the Bucs' score their first goal, fans can heave the stuffed animal onto the ice where they will be collected and donated to various charities.

Friday night also features the return of the diamond dig sponsored by Christopher's Fine Jewelry where one lucky lady will walk away with a diamond pendent valued at nearly $2,000. Following the game, 25 ladies will be selected to dig through a mound of snow with one coming out with the pendent.

Then on Saturday, it's the annual jersey auction to benefit the John Stoddard Cancer Center. The Bucs will be wearing special jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game with ALL proceeds going to the John Stoddard Cancer Center.

The Des Moines Buccaneers are playing their 32nd consecutive season in the United States Hockey League this season. Since 1980, the Buccaneers have produced hundreds of NCAA Division I players and dozens of professional alumni.
