
Bucks End Eagles Streak in 3-1 Win

LOVELAND, Colo.- The Laredo Bucks ended the Colorado Eagles 19-game home winning streak Wednesday night with a 3-1 win at the Budweiser Events Center in front of the 130th consecutive sellout crowd. Eric Marvin was the difference in the game saving 31 of 32 shots in net for Laredo and Jeff Bes scored the game-winning goal at the 13:56 mark of the first period. The Bucks killed all five of the Eagles power play chances while converting on two of their six opportunities. The Eagles have only lost twice this season at the Budweiser Events Center and not since opening night on October 20, 2006. Chris Hartsburg had the lone goal for Colorado who remain in first place in the Northwest Division with a record of 29-6-0 for 58 points. It marked only the second time this season the Eagles have not scored two or more goals. The Eagles will head to the road for three games this weekend against the Tulsa Oilers, Wichita Thunder and Oklahoma City Blazers.
The Eagles were whistled for a penalty just 29 seconds into the game, and Laredo capitalized on their first power play chance. Igor Agarunov scored his 13th goal of the season on assists from Chris Korchinski and Steve Weidlich. Colorado battled back, Brad Williamson just missed on a chance when he hit the crossbar at the 4:43 mark. The Eagles tied the game on a good individual effort by Chris Hartsburg as he streaked down the left wing and beat goaltender Eric Marvin with a backhand goal. He was assisted by Craig Strain. Just over one minute later, the Bucks took a 2-1 lead when Jeff Bes got behind the defense and snapped a wrist shot past Eagles' goaltender Marco Emond. After one period of play, the Bucks led the Eagles 2-1, however the Eagles out shot Laredo 15-8. The difference was the Bucks converted on their only power play chance, while Colorado was not able to convert on any of their three chances.
The teams skated to a scoreless second period. Laredo out shot the Eagles 13-7 however they were unable to convert on any of there three power play chances in the period. Marco Emond made a big save with five minutes to go in the period to keep the Eagles down by just one goal. Colorado was unable to convert on their only power play chance of the period although it was a shortened opportunity.
Colorado had another shortened power play to begin the third period but again Laredo killed the penalty. The Eagles continued to pressure throughout the period out shooting Laredo 10-3 but it was Eric Marvin that made the difference in the game in net for the Bucks. He finished with 31 saves on 32 shots in his best outing of the season. Laredo added an empty net power play goal with 12 seconds to go in the game to make the final score 3-1 and end the Eagles 19-game home winning streak. Laredo killed all five of the Eagles power play chances while converting on two of their six chances. Jeff Bes had the game winning goal way back in the first period. Final Score: Laredo 3 - Colorado 1.
The Eagles will head on the road for three games in three nights this weekend. They will travel to Tulsa on Friday, Wichita on Saturday and Oklahoma City on Sunday for three important Northern Conference games.
