Buccaneers Welcome Kyle Lawson

DES MOINES, IA - The Des Moines Buccaneers have hired Kyle Lawson to fill the position of Assistant Coach, the team announced today.

"We are very excited to announce the new addition of Kyle Lawson to our coaching staff. Kyle brings a wealth of hockey experience from many different areas in with hockey. His playing career and experiences will provide great lessons and examples for our aspiring players to achieve their goals. And his hockey knowledge and emphasis on development fits perfectly with our goal to develop our players on and off the ice on a daily basis. I am very excited to have Kyle on staff and bring a great passion and energy to our organization going forward!" commented Head Coach and General Manager Peter Mannino when asked about his recent hire.

New Holland, Michigan native Lawson brings a NCAA Championship pedigree to Des Moines, playing on the 2006-2007 and 2008-2009 Notre Dame NCAA championship teams. During his time with the Fighting Irish, Kyle was named Assistant Captain and earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team for the NCAA(2006-2007), NCAA Second All Star Team (2008-2009) and the NCAA Best Defensive Defensemen(2008-2009). Lawson played at the junior hockey level for the US National Development Team winning a Gold medal with the U18 team at the World Junior Challenge, as well as a Bronze Medal with the U20 team. Lawson would go on to play for the Tri City Storm prior to attending Notre Dame University.

Kyle's playing career included time in the professional ranks with Albany River Rats (AHL), Charlotte Checkers (AHL), Florida Everblades (ECHL), and the Gwinnett Gladiators (ECHL). Lawson would go on to an assistant coaching position behind the bench at his alma mater, Notre Dame for the 2019-2020 season.
