Brown Bears Set to Take on Magicians

September 25, 2019 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Kenai River Brown Bears News Release

The Kenai River Brown Bears depart the NAHL Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota to move just down the road in Richfield for a two game series with the Minnesota Magicians.

Both teams made a habit of playing overtime at the Showcase in Blaine as every Brown Bear game needed extra time and three of the four required a shootout. The Magicians saw their final two games of the Showcase go to overtime and both times the Magicians saw their opponent celebrate as they scored the game winning goal.

For the Brown Bears, Logan Ritchie leads the team with three goals. Theo Thrun has two while Porter Schachle, Stewart Pond, Kyle Valiquette, JJ Boucher and Robert McCollum have all lit the lamp once. Zach Krajnik is the team leader in assists with three in four games.

All three goalies have seen time in goal with Landon Pavlisin seeing two games at the Showcase, winning the game Friday while losing Wednesday's game in a shootout to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Danny Fraga stopped 38 shots in his shootout win on Saturday night. CJ Hapward stopped 32 in an overtime loss to Lone Star.

The Magicians offense has gone through Jimmy Doyle. He has scored four goals in four games. No other player on the Minnesota roster has more than one. Marko Reifenberger is tied for the team lead in points with four while Jonathan Ziskie has three points of his own.

David Tomeo had the best Showcase of the three Minnesota netminders. In his one game, he allowed just one goal in a 20 save win against Jamestown. Alexander Aslanidis started twice for the Magicians and went 0-1-1 in those starts, allowing nine goals on 53 shots.

The Brown Bears will look to extend their winning streak to three while hoping to keep the game in regulation now that they are facing Midwest Division opponents. You can watch the game live on HockeyTV with puck drop coming at 4:15pm ADT (7:15pm local) on Friday afternoon and face-off at 4:05pm ADT (7:05pm local) on Saturday.
