Brett Harrison Named to Hockey Canada's Selection Camp Roster for the 2020 Hlinka Gretzky Cup

June 11, 2020 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Oshawa Generals News Release

Oshawa, ON - Hockey Canada announced today that forward Brett Harrison would have been named to Hockey Canada's Selection Camp roster for the 2020 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

Harrison, the London, ON native was the 1st round, 16th overall selection by the Generals in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection. In his first season in the Ontario Hockey League, the 6'1, 167-pound, left shot centre, amassed 21 goals and 16 assists for 37 points in 58 games. Harrison was also the first 16 year-old rookie, in a Generals uniform, to reach the 20 goal mark since Dale Mitchell in the 2005/06 season. Harrison had previously represented Hockey Canada at the World U17 Hockey Challenge last fall.

"It is unfortunate Brett won't get the experience of this tournament with its cancellation," said Vice President and General Manager, Roger Hunt. "But, it is fantastic Brett has still been recognized by Hockey Canada for his great rookie season."

"I was thrilled to get the call from Hockey Canada regarding the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. I was honoured to represent my country at the World U17 Hockey Challenge last fall and I look forward to another opportunity to play for Team Canada in the near future," said Harrison on hearing he was named to the roster.

The Hlinka Gretzky Cup is an international showcase of some of the best under-18 hockey talent in the world. This event was to be held in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alta., August 3rd-8th but has been cancelled for this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
