Brendan Brisson Named USHL Rookie of the Year

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Chicago Steel forward Brendan Brisson was named 2020 Rookie of the Year, the United States Hockey League announced Friday.
The Manhattan Beach, Calif., native held sole possession of the rookie scoring race with 59 points (24G, 35A) in 45 games played through the 2019-2020 campaign, the second-most among all USHL skaters this season. Brisson was twice named USHL Forward of the Week (Nov. 19, 2019 & Jan. 22, 2020) and posted more multi-point games (18) than games being held off the scoresheet (12).
The 5-foot-11, 177-pound forward represented the United States of America in the World Junior A Challenge in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, topping the club with 12 points (5G, 7A) through six games played.
In NHL Central Scouting's Final Ranking List release on April 8, Brisson was rated 20th among North American skaters.
Brisson, committed to the University of Michigan, was named to the 2020 All-USHL First Team on Thursday, the first rookie to be named to the All-USHL First Team since Andrei Svechnikov and Mario Ferraro in 2017.

Brisson joins Robby Jackson (2013-14) and Danny Richmond (2001-02) as the third player in Chicago Steel franchise history to win the USHL Rookie of the Year Award.
The Steel were awarded the 2020 Anderson Cup as the regular-season champions of the United States Hockey League after posting a 41-7-1-0 (83 pts) record, a franchise-best for wins and points in a season. Chicago set league records with an .847 win percentage and an average of 4.94 goals per game prior to the cancellation of the regular season and Clark Cup Playoffs on March 18.
