Danville Otterbots News Release

In their final game of the 2016 season, the D-Braves defeated the Burlington Royals 2-1 thanks to a seventh inning RBI single from Ryan O'Malley and strong pitching from Ian Anderson, as well as the Braves bullpen.

After two scoreless frames, the Royals scored the first run of the game in the top of the third via a sacrifice fly off the bat of Nicky Lopez. The fly out brought home Logan Gray and made the score 1-0 Burlington.

The Braves answered with a sacrifice fly of their own in the bottom of the fourth to tie the contest at one. Alex Lee recorded the RBI, while Ramon Osuna scored the tying run.

The game remained locked at 1-1 until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Braves broke in front. After Elias Arias walked and then stole second base, O'Malley knocked him home with an RBI single to left field that gave the Braves a 2-1 lead.

Braves starter Ian Anderson pitched a career high six innings Thursday, allowing just two hits, one earned run, and one walk. Anderson struck out five and earned a no decision.

Jordy Lara earned the win for the Braves after pitching the seventh inning, and Dalton Carroll pitched the final two innings to pick up the save. Neither reliever allowed a hit, and the Braves pitching contingent held Burlington to just two base knocks on the night.

Matt Hearn went two-for-three at the plate for Danville, and seven of the nine Braves hitters tallied a hit. In sum, the team recorded eight hits on the night.

The win concludes Danville's 2016 Appalachian League season. The Braves finished the year with a 31-36 record.
