Brandon Allen Named to USL Team of the Week
March 20, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Philadelphia Union II News Release
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After scoring a pair of goals in his first match as a member of Bethlehem Steel FC, Brandon Allen was voted to the USL Team of the Week after his standout performance against the Richmond Kickers.
Allen became the first player in the club's young history to net a brace in his debut, scoring twice in the second half in Steel FC's home-opening win over Richmond. Allen becomes the eighth member of the club to earn the league's weekly honor.
The 24-year-old forward showcased the talent that has him as one of the league's best goal scorers over the past few seasons. After Richmond cut the Steel FC lead to 2-1, Allen turned on the offense over the final 30 minutes of play. After a strong run by Derrick Jones into the Kickers box was saved by the keeper coming off his line, Allen collected the loose ball. Finding himself at the edge of the 18-yard box, the 24-year-old took three steps to his left before firing a shot through the defense and inside the left post for his debut goal.
Allen was just getting started on the day as rookie midfielder Mike Catalano played a through ball toward the Old Bridge, NJ native. With a quick touch around the keeper to get to the end line, Allen threaded the ball from the tight angle for the brace.
Allen and the rest of Steel FC head on the road for their first road match of 2018, traveling south to face the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday, March 24. Kick off from Al Lang Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. and will broadcast locally on Service Electric.
Bethlehem Steel FC returns to Goodman Stadium the following week, welcoming Nashville SC on Saturday, March 31. Tickets for the 2 p.m. match can be ordered here or by calling the Steel FC ticket office at 1-844-STEELFC.
