Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

The Saint John Sea Dogs (28-29-1-0) defeated the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (26-27-2-2) 3-2 in their annual mental health game in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association of New Brunswick at TD Station on Sunday afternoon. The Sea Dogs penalty kill came out in full force, shutting down the Huskies power play six out of seven times.

Zachary Bouthillier was incredible in net for Saint John, stopping 36 of the 38 shots he faced. Samuel Richard started for the Huskies, stopping 23 of the 26 shots the Sea Dogs sent his way.

The Sea Dogs took an early lead when Anderson MacDonald scored his fourth goal in three games, a tip-in in front of the net at 2:18.

The Sea Dogs then went on to kill two penalties, an interference call that sent Anderson MacDonald off for two minutes and a high sticking double minor that forced Charlie DesRoches to sit for four minutes.

With 2:30 remaining in the period, the Sea Dogs took a 2-0 lead. Brady Burns picked up the loose puck in front of the net and fired it past the netminder for his 26th goal of the season.

Shots at the end of the first period were 12-10 for Rouyn-Noranda.

Joshua Roy increased the lead to three, picking up a pass from Brady Burns in front of the net and slamming it past Samuel Richard, extending his goal streak to four games.

William Villeneuve was sent to the box for tripping, but 48 seconds later, play went to four-on-four when two Huskies and one Sea Dog were sent off. Louis-Filip Côté received a tripping penalty, Vincent Marleau was sent off for holding, and Jeffrey Durocher went to the box for slashing at 8:01.

Maxim Cajkovic joined the group in the penalty box 14 seconds later and the Huskies got a four-on-three advantage for 1:08.

The Huskies called a timeout to try to take advantage of the situation, but all of the penalties were killed, and the Sea Dogs took their 3-0 lead into the third period.

Shots going into the final frame were 27-19 for Rouyn-Noranda.

The Sea Dogs got an early power play when Shaun Miller was sent off for throwing his stick 33 seconds into the period.

As soon as their first power play ended, the Sea Dogs got another, this time when Olivier-Luc Haché went to the box for hooking at 2:55. A neutral zone turnover on the power play turned into a scoring chance for the Huskies, who broke the shutout at 4:51.

A hooking penalty to Zachary Cardinal at 11:23 gave the Sea Dogs their third power play of the afternoon.

The Sea Dogs went onto a late kill when Matt Gould was sent off for kneeing with 3:23 remaining. A tripping call against Jordan Spadafore gave the Huskies a two-man advantage for 47 seconds. The Huskies pulled their goaltender and play was six-on-three. William Villeneuve joined them in the box shortly after for delay of game.

Rouyn-Noranda scored with 32 seconds remaining, cutting the lead to one.

The Huskies pulled their goaltender once again to try to tie the game up, but big saves from Zachary Bouthillier in the final moments gave the Sea Dogs the win in regulation.

The final shots were 38-26 for Rouyn-Noranda.
