CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs broke open a tie game in the 7th inning for a second straight night to earn an 8-4 victory over the Long Island Ducks and polish off a three-game sweep. It's the first sweep on the road this season for Southern Maryland and the win matches their longest win streak of the season at five games.
In a 4-4 tie in the top of the 7th, Southern Maryland snatched the lead for good. Bobby Stevens led off with a single and then scored on a sacrifice bunt, E2 on catcher Jan Vazquez. Later in the frame, Steve Moss drew a bases-loaded walk and Cyle Hankerd followed with a sacrifice fly to cap off the three-run inning. Stevens would add a solo home run in the top of the 8th for the final run of the game.
Jake Opitz got the scoring started in the opening half inning with a two-out RBI single to score Stevens. Long Island fired back with three home runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Bill Hall, Adam Bailey and Cody Puckett all hit solo shots to give the Ducks a 3-1 lead.
The Blue Crabs immediately tied the game with two runs in the top of the 3rd. C.J. Ziegler delivered a two-out, two-run single to make the score 3-3.
In the 5th, Opitz singled home another run in the top half but was answered by an RBI double by Brendan Harris of the Ducks to tie the game 4-4.
