
Blockbuster NLL trade involves Mikey Powell and Conor Gill

Boston, MA (March 21, 2007) - Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today the trade of Mikey Powell of the Washington Bayhawks and Conor Gill of the Boston Cannons, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross.
Overall the Boston Cannons have acquired attackman Mike Powell, midfielder Ben DeFelice and a conditional 2008 Collegiate Draft choice. The Bayhawks received attackman Conor Gill and defenseman Ryan Curtis.
Powell returns to lacrosse action after a one year absence. He exploded onto the MLL scene in 2005 scoring 27 goals and dishing out 17 assists for 44 total points. Along with Gary Gait and Tom Marechek, Powell helped comprise what many believed to be the greatest attack line in lacrosse history. Powell helped lead the Bayhawks to the 2005 MLL Championship.
In addition to a standout first MLL season Powell is one of the sport's most decorated athletes at both the collegiate and international level.
A 2004 Syracuse graduate, Powell won two National Championships with the Orange and was the tournament MVP in both of those seasons. He finished with school record 307 points, good for second on the NCAA's all-time list. Powell is the only two-time Tewaaraton Trophy winner, awarded to the country's best player.
He is just the fourth NCAA lacrosse player to be named a first team All-American in each of his four seasons. He is the only NCAA lacrosse player to be named National Attackman of the Year four times.
In addition to Powell the Cannons acquired midfielder Ben DeFelice. The Towson graduate has played three MLL seasons and was drafted by Philadelphia in 2004 and played for the Bayhawks in 2005 and 2006. DeFelice is a face-off and defensive midfielder.
Gill is one of the MLL's most decorated players. In five seasons with the Cannons Gill established himself as the league's premier assist-man and one of the game's most complete attackman. Gill is the MLL's all-time leading assist-getter. He has led the MLL in assists each of the last four seasons.
Gill was the MLL's MVP in 2004. He's led the league in points twice, 2004 (67) and 2006 (62). In five years with the Cannons Gill has averaged close to 60 points and over 30 assists per season. He set the MLL single season assist record with 40 in both 2003 and 2004.
Gill has been named All-MLL two times (2004 and 2006). He is also a four-time MLL All-Star selection. He finished his Cannons career with 114 goals, 5 two-point goals, and 163 assists for 282 total points.
Gill was a two-time All-American at the University of Virginia. He was named the Most Outstanding Player at the 1999 NCAA Championships after leading Virginia to a National Title.
Ryan Curtis, a Potomac, MD native, comes to Washington after six seasons of MLL service with the Boston Cannons. Curtis is one of Boston's three original assigned players. In the Cannons six year existence Curtis has appeared in all but two games. He's been the Cannons team captain for three seasons.
Curtis is one of the MLL's best defenders. He was named the league's 2003 Defensive Player of the Year. Curtis is a four-time MLL All-Star. Over the past six seasons for the Cannons he has continually been given the assignment of guarding the opposing team's best offensive player.
Curtis is a 2000 Virginia graduate. He was a first-team All-American in 1999 and 2000 and the National Defensive Player of the Year in 1999. He helped lead UVA to the National Championship in 1999.
