Blizzard Hold off Bucks 48-39

May 6, 2019 - Indoor Football League (IFL) - Green Bay Blizzard News Release

The Green Bay Blizzard defense stood strong with a 4-play goal line stand at the end of the game Saturday night to defeat the Bismarck Bucks 48 to 39.

The Bucks were fighting back from a 21-point deficit in the second half and had a chance to get a touchdown and an extra point to get within 2 points. With first and goal on the Blizzard 3-yard line, Bismarck quarterback John Gibbs ran to the goal line and was stopped short. The second down play was a pass that was incomplete. Gibbs tried another running play on 3rd down to be stopped short again. On 4th down, the Bucks tried to run a sweep play to the left only to have Green Bay defensive lineman Silverberry Mouhon break through his block to tackle the running back for a loss of 3 yards. The Blizzard took over with 24 seconds left. By rule, the Blizzard needed to make positive yardage to keep the clock running and with Bismarck having no time outs left, one play was all that was needed. Quarterback Lenorris Footman took the snap, ran around the right end for a gain of 15 yards to end the game.

The Blizzard improved to 6 and 3 on the season while Bismarck's 2 game winning streak ends. They fall to 2 and 7. The Blizzard have not had 6 wins in a season since 2015 when their record stood at 6 and 5 with 3 games left to play. They finished 6 and 8. They have not been 3 games over .500 since 2012. Green Bay holds the 4th place spot in the IFL with a game and a half lead over Nebraska who lost to Arizona this past weekend. They are one game behind Sioux Falls for 3rd place.

The Blizzard travel to Sioux Falls on Saturday for a very important game against the Storm for playoff seeding. The winner will control third place in the league. The Bucks travel to Tucson to play the 6th place Sugar Skulls on Saturday.

All games are broadcast live on YouTube.
