Blake Wood to DL; Johnson to return

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals announced two transactions in advance of the Texas League All-Star Break, which will take effect prior to the team departing on its six-game road trip to San Antonio and Corpus Christi, TX. Right-hander Blake Wood was placed on the seven-day disabled list following Monday's game against the Arkansas Travelers, retroactive to June 27th, with elbow inflammation. Wood, the 23-year old resident of Suwanee, GA, owns a 2-6 record and 5.27 ERA on the season in 13 starts.  June was the best month of the season thus far for the right-hander, as he posted a 3.46 ERA in four starts, the best numbers among Naturals' starting pitchers in the month despite finishing June with an 0-3 record.  Wood was the Kansas City Royals' third-round selection in the 2006 draft. The Royals also announced that infielder Josh Johnson will return to the Naturals roster from Advanced Class-A Wilmington and meet the team in San Antonio.  Johnson, a 23-year old Tampa, FL native, batted .214 with eight RBI in 103 at-bats over 36 games before being sent to Wilmington in mid-June.  While with the Blue Rocks, Johnson batted .333 with three RBI and two steals in 21 at-bats.  The versatile defender was the Royals' 3rd round selection in the 2004 draft. Manager Brian Poldberg also announced that left-hander Everett Teaford will start game one of the San Antonio series, and be followed by right-hander Matt Kniginysky on Friday and right-hander Dan Cortes on Saturday. The Naturals roster remains at the Texas League limit of 24 active players.The Northwest Arkansas Naturals are the Double-A Texas League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals and play at state-of-the-art Arvest Ballpark, located in Springdale.
