Blades Fall to Raiders in Pre-Season Finale

September 15, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release

Prince Albert, SK - The Saskatoon Blades proved to be human after all, losing their first and only game of the 2018 exhibition season 5-2 in Prince Albert on Saturday. It was likely the least intense of the four games between the Blades and Raiders of the pre-season as each team got one final look before opening weekend which begins on Friday.

Prince Albert opened the scoring thanks to a short-handed breakaway goal from Brett Leason. Emil Malysjev answered on the same power play for Saskatoon to tie the game; Seth Bafaro assisting. Brett Leason then got his second of the game just minutes later on the first power play for the Raiders, giving the home side a 2-1 lead at the first intermission.

In the second period Spencer Moe scored twice for Prince Albert, one coming from his skate blade off the rush but since he was outside the crease it was a good goal. Max Martin had what ended up being the insurance marker for the Raiders while Aidan De La Gorgendiere scored his first of the pre-season for Saskatoon. Randen Schmidt and Tristen Robins had the assists. Brandon Machado left the ice after hit from Kody McDonald in the second period and did not return.

Neither team lit the lamp in the final period as the Raiders skated to a 5-2 win; their first on home ice of the pre-season. Meanwhile the Blades finish the pre-season with a 6-1 record.

Nolan Maier turned aside 30 of 35 shots faced while Donovan Buskey made 21 saves at the other end of the rink for Prince Albert.

The Blades will now turn their focus on the season opener Friday night in Swift Current as they visit their former bench boss Dean Brockman and the reigning league champion Broncos.

Saskatoon's home opener is slated for the following night at SaskTel Centre against those same Broncos. If you no longer wish to receive these emails, you can unsubscribe here: https://blogtrottr.com/unsubscribe/myK/NfyRp9
