Bighorns Name Dance Team Directors

RENO, NEV., July 17, 2014 - The Reno Bighorns have named Antonia Polan and Camille Ruja as the Lady Bighorns dance team Co-Directors, the team announced today.

Polan, who is returning from the 2013-14 season, spent four seasons as a Gold Rush dancer for the San Francisco 49ers, has danced with the California Ballet Academy, the Oakland Ballet, San Francisco's ODC, Chico Dance Theater and HYPE Dance Studio. During her four years as a Gold Rush member, Antonia traveled the world to dance in Japan, London, Hawaii as well as New Orleans during Super Bowl XVLII. This past spring she had the honor of being asked by her team to represent them as a 2013 Pro Bowl Cheerleader.

"I feel truly blessed to be returning as a coach for the Lady Bighorn," said Polan. "The growth we experienced last year as a dance organization has fueled my passion for this team."

New to the Lady Bighorns, Ruja studied Dance Kinesiology at the California State University, Chico. Ruja studied a variety of dance styles, such as Contemporary, Hip-hop, African, and Musical Theatre. During her studies, Ruja danced for CSUC Expressions Dance Team, Hype Dance Studio's Fusion College Jazz and took part in various hip-hop competition teams, as well as directed and choreographed for Chico Dance. Ruja is also a previous Sacramento Kings Dancer.

"I'm very excited to become a part of the Reno Bighorns," said Ruja. "I love sharing my passion of dance and performance, and I'm looking forward to coaching a team of talented young women."

The Bighorns will hold a pre-audition workshop on Friday, August 1 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The workshop will be at the South Reno Athletic Club, located at 9393 Gateway Drive. The workshop will act as a mock audition and will feature the choreography style that will be taught at auditions. Participants are asked to come with full performance hair and makeup as well as an audition outfit to get individual feedback on appearance and performance. The cost for the workshop is $40, and any girl who participates will have the regular audition fee waived.

Auditions for the Lady Bighorns will take place on Saturday, August 9 at 1 p.m. at the South Reno Athletic Club. Participants will warm up and learn dance routines until approximately 3 P.M., at which point they will perform in front of a panel of judges. Participants must come in full performance hair and makeup. For any participants not attending the pre-audition workshop, the cost for tryouts is $25.
