Big Inning Dooms Ducks In 7-5 Loss To Baysox

Akron RubberDucks News Release

(Akron, OH) April 13, 2014 - Bowie's Garabez Rosa smacked a three-run home run during a six-run fourth inning Sunday afternoon, and the Baysox slipped by the Akron RubberDucks, 7-5, before a crowd of 4,208, at Canal Park.

Rosa, the EL leader in RBI, increased his total to 14 on the season with an opposite field homer to right field off Akron starter Kyle Davies (0-1). Rosa's blast came with two outs in the inning, and one batter after Dariel Alvarez reached base on a throwing error by shortstop Ronny Rodriguez. Later, the Baysox got back-to-back-to-back RBI hits from David Feitas, Buck Britton, and Niuman Romero to complete the barrage. All the runs were unearned.

The outburst in the fourth erased a 2-0 RubberDucks lead. Catcher Alex Lavisky belted a two-run homer in the third off lefty Jake Pettit (1-1). It was Lavisky's first Double-A homer and his first two RBI of the season.

Davies worked six innings for the second consecutive start. He did not issue a walk and fanned three. Jordan Cooper (2 IP) and Shawn Armstrong (1 IP) provided relief help. Cooper surrendered a solo homer to Ron Bermudez in the eighth.

The RubberDucks tried to rally in the seventh, loading the bases with no one one out against Pettit. Tonly Wolters lined an RBI single, scoring Bryson Myles. Pettit was then lifted in favor of hard-throwing righthander Marcel Prade who got Lavisky to ground into a double play. Tyler Naquin then grounded into a fielder's choice, and the Ducks settled for two runs and still trailed 6-4 at the time.

In the ninth, Naquin drove in a run with a two-out double to make it 7-5, but Oliver Drake rebounded to retire pinch-hitter Joe Wendle to end the game and post his second save of the series.

Myles finished a homer short of the cycle, going 3-4, with a single, double and triple. He is currently the RubberDucks' leading hitter at .423.

The RubberDucks (5-5) will continue the homestand on Monday evening at 6:35, as they welcome in the Trenton Thunder for the start of a three-game series. RHP Bryan Mitchell (0-2, 9.00) will start for Trenton, while RHP Gabriel Arias (1-0, 0.00) is expected to get the ball for Akron. The game will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1350 AM in Akron.
