Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - The Hooks scored five times in the fifth inning and benefited from strong pitching by Jose Bravo, Matt Ruppenthal and Devin Conn to knock off Frisco, 5-4, Wednesday night at Whataburger Field.
The effort ended Corpus Christi's losing streak at five games.
After permitting an unearned run in the first and home runs in the second and third, Bravo bounced back to log 5 2/3 innings for the victory. The 25-year-old from Tijuana retired nine of the last 12 men he faced, with the exceptions being a hit batsman and a pair of infield singles.
Bravo was rewarded as the Hooks marched 10 men to the plate in the fifth, chasing Jack Leiter from the contest. CC scored five runs on three hits, three walks, a wild pitch, and a hit-by-pitch. The RBIs came from Quincy Hamilton, Will Wagner, C.J. Stubbs, Edwin Diaz, and Ross Adolph.
Wagner led the charge with three hits on the night. Adolph also reached base three times, including a two-out RBI single to cap the fruitful fifth.
Ruppenthal retired four of the five men he faced out of the Hooks bullpen and Conn earned the two-inning save, while working around a pair of two-out singles.
