Beydoun Blanks Fargo, 3-0
Robbie Beydoun made 24 saves in a 3-0 Waterloo Black Hawks win Tuesday at Scheels Arena, yielding a three-game sweep of the Fargo Force in the first round of the Clark Cup playoffs.
The Hawk netminder was busiest during a scoreless second period when he turned in a dozen stops.
It is the second time Beydoun has shutout Fargo since the beginning of 2016/17 in the building he previously called home.
Beydoun was a member of the Force for two seasons before joining Waterloo this summer.
The Hawks killed off two opening period Fargo power plays.
Following the first, Waterloo recorded the period's only goal.
Mason Palmer's low shot from the left point made it to the crease; goalie Ryan Bischel fought it off but left a rebound, and Jackson Cates flipped in the game's initial tally.
Waterloo nailed down the win in the third period, starting at 1:20.
After a Hawks power play ended, Dylan Samberg's shot-pass from the left point came to Shane Bowers who redirected it into the net past Bischel.
The Fargo goalie was on the bench when the game's final goal was recorded.
Ahead of a late power play opportunity, the Force lifted Bischel for an extra attacker.
With no fear of icing, Bailey Conger scored into the open goal from 150 feet away at 18:39.
The Hawks now await their second round opponent after winning the best-of-five series.
Waterloo will meet either the Sioux City Musketeers or Des Moines Buccaneers.
Sioux City leads that series two-games-to-none; their next matchup is Friday at Buccaneer Arena.
