Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL - The Burlington Bees knocked out 13 hits Friday night at O'Brien Field on their way to an 8-0 shutout victory over the Peoria Chiefs. The loss puts the Chiefs below .500 at 4-5 in the second half, 39-40 overall.
For the second night in a row, Burlington scored a single run in the top of the 1st inning, as Mario Lisson lined a one-out single to left, stole second, and scored on a single to left from Geraldo Valentin for a 1-0 lead off Chiefs starter Jesse Estrada.
The Bees extended their lead in the 4th inning after Valentin drove in another run with a ground out to score Irving Falu. Brian McFall singled home Mario Lisson two batters later for a 3-0 lead. The Bees took advantage of two errors from Chiefs first baseman Drew Larsen later in the inning to score two unearned runs and take a 5-0 lead.
A three-run home run from Bees center fielder Cody Cure in the 6th inning broke the game wide open at 8-0 and drove Estrada from the game. Estrada went five innings, allowing eight runs on 11 hits in taking the loss. His record falls to 4-8.
The Chiefs totaled just six hits on the game and moved a runner into scoring position with less than two outs just twice. Luis Montanez walked and moved to second on a single from Ryan Harvey in the 4th, but Jesse Schmidt grounded into a double play to end the threat. Schmidt hit a one-out double into the left-center field gap in the 7th before being stranded at third.
Burlington starter Kyle Crist improved to 6-1 on the year as he held the Chiefs scoreless through seven innings, allowing just six hits. Yovany Damico preserved the shutout for the Bees with two perfect innings of relief.
