Salt Lake Bees News Release
Dustin Ackley snapped a tie with a solo homer in the 7th inning to give the Salt Lake Bees a 6-5 win over the Memphis Redbirds and a split of their two games on Friday night.
Memphis won the completion of Thursday's suspended game 7-2. Memphis came back to tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. In the seventh, Ackley appeared to be hit in the foot on an 0-1 pitch, but the umpires ruled that he wasn't struck by the ball. On the very next pitch, Ackley drilled the ball over the right field wall to put Salt Lake back in front. Eduardo Paredes worked a scoreless bottom of the seventh to earn his second save of the season. Deolis Guerra (3-0) tossed one and two-third scoreless innings to get the win.
In game one, the Bees took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by Carlos Perez . Memphis tied the game in the bottom of the first and then Angels' starter Tyler Skaggs, who was on a Major League injury rehab assignment, struggled with a slippery mound due to a steady rain. With one out in the second, Skaggs issued back to back walks and Wilfredo Tovar followed with a two run double to left. Skaggs walked the next batter before the umpires suspended play. The game resumed on Friday night and the Redbirds broke it open with three runs in the in the fourth. Skaggs was charged with the loss, as he went one and one-third innings and allowed three runs on three hits with three walks and no strikeouts. Perez and David Fletcher each had two hits to lead the Bees, while Rey Navarro belted a solo homer in the sixth, his fifth home run of the season.
