Beach Dogs Snap Losing Skid, Shut Out Cardinals 4-0

CLEARWATER, Fl - Four Clearwater Beach Dogs pitchers combined to shutout the Palm Beach Cardinals 4-0 and snap a four-game losing streak on Saturday night at BayCare Ballpark.
Left-hander JoJo Romero, on a MLB Rehab assignment from the Philadelphia Phillies, tossed a scoreless first inning and struck out one the begin the game.
The Beach Dogs (30-30) opened the scoring in the second when Jamari Baylor reached on a wild pitch, scoring Andrick Nava from third base to make it 1-0.
Lefty Jordi Martinez tossed the middle innings for Clearwater on the mound and was credited with his second win of the season. The southpaw allowed no runs on five hits and struck out two in five innings of work.
Leading 1-0 in the sixth, the Beach Dogs used a double by Wilfredo Flores, a sac-bunt from Kendall Simmons and an RBI sac-fly by Marcus Lee Sang to push their advantage to 2-0.
After right-hander Konnor Ash worked a scoreless seventh and eighth innings on the bump, the Beach Dogs tacked on two more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Lee Sang picked up an infield single, for his second RBI of the night before Nava slashed a RBI base knock into left to make it 4-0.
Righty Rodolfo Sanchez entered in the ninth for Clearwater and despite allowing two baserunners, worked a scoreless frame to seal the shutout and give the home team their first victory of the six-game series.
Clearwater will look to make it two in a row on Saturday night, as right-hander Jean Cabrera (1-2, 4.35 ERA) heads to the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with coverage on the Threshers Broadcasting Network beginning at 6:20 p.m.
