B.C. Lions News Release
(Vancouver) The BC Lions began the work week with their second two-a-day of 2009. Under high cloud and pleasant temperatures players wore shoulder pads for the first time in three practices and the intensity certainly picked up in one-on-one drills.
Along the offensive line coach Dan Dorazio could be heard complimenting the work of Angus Reid, Andrew Jones and Jon Hameister-Ries. Not to be outdone however were defensive linemen Jonathan Williams and Rodney Allen who are making some noise as interior linemen.
Veterans continue to lead the way as Paris Jackson and Ryan Grice-Mullen are in mid-camp form snagging passes all over the field. On the defensive side of the ball, both Dante Marsh and Korey Banks have been aggressive and effective in the secondary.
The afternoon session was played under sunshine and temperatures in the mid-20's and also featured a sparkling catches from Geroy Simon as well as Grice-Mullen once again with Korey Banks picking up his first interception of training camp for the boys in black. Junior star running back Andrew Harris broke off a nice run and fellow back Damian Sims is beginning to emerge as a leading candidate to be the team's feature back.
The club made two roster moves today as running backs Charles Pierre and Amos Allen were released. Pierre was let go by the club Monday morning while Allen was released after lunch.
Watching: Defensive lineman Melik Brown (hamstring) did not practice during the morning session but returned in the afternoon. Receiver Matt Carter tweaked his hamstring and sat out the later portions of today's second practice.
Interested: Scouts from the NFL's Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears were in attendance on Monday.
Food Fare: Lunch at Columbia Bible College consisted of salad, hot sandwiches, hash browns and veggies. For dinner the squad sat down to chicken cordon blue, steak, roast potatoes and veggies.
Quotable: "You can do it my way or your way, but my way is better and your way has consequences" - Wally Buono on defensive holding and illegal procedure calls on the offence.
Next Up: Tuesday, June 9 - two sessions (8:30 am-10:30am & 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm)
The Lions travel to Calgary to take on the defending Grey Cup champion Stampeders in preseason action on Wednesday, June 17th and will host the Edmonton Eskimos at BC Place on Tuesday, June 23rd at 7:00 pm.
