BayBears Defeat Braves, Even Series

PEARL, MS -- The Mobile BayBears defeated the Mississippi Braves 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Trustmark Park, evening the series at two games apiece. The two teams meet for the rubber match of the series Monday at 7:00 PM.

Mobile (2-2) scored two runs on six hits while the M-Braves (2-2) plated its only run on six hits. Christian Bethancourt led the Braves offense with two hits including a double. Jon Griffin drove in both BayBears runs.

Kyle Russell and Edward Salcedo singled to start the bottom of the second. Mycal Jones walked to load the bases for the pitcher, Gus Schlosser. In his first career at bat, Schlosser drew a walk to drive in Russell and put the M-Braves up 1-0.

Ender Inciarte singled and stole second to start the fifth for the BayBears. Michael Freeman walked and Nick Evans followed with a single to load the bases. Griffin then grounded out to shortstop, allowing Inciarte to score and tie the game at 1-1.

Mobile took a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh. Freeman walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Griffin then delivered a RBI-single to center field to put the BayBears on top.

Schlosser worked five innings in his Double-A debut but did not factor in the decision. He gave up one earned run on five hits, three walks and two strikeouts.

Bradin Hagens (1-0) limited the M-Braves to one earned run on four hits, two walks and two strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Eric Smith (S, 1) worked the final frame to notch his first save of the year. Mark Lamm (1-1) worked two innings and took the loss for the M-Braves.

The M-Braves send right-hander Gary Moran (0-0, 0.00) to the hill in Monday night's series finale at Trustmark Park. He'll counter righty Derek Eitel (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is slated for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
