Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release
Battle Creek, Mich. - The Battle Creek Bombers fell to the Lakeshore Chinooks, 3-0 Saturday night, as Dazon Cole dominated the Bombers' hitters on the mound.
The Chinooks got things started in the first as they worked four walks against Austin Bueter, scoring runs on Kurtis Brown's bases loaded walk and James Bleming's sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 lead.
The Chinooks would score again in the fifth against Max Ritchie, who came on to relieve Bueter after the first inning. In the fifth, back-to-back singles from Matt Reardon and Tim Dalporto gave the Chinooks a 3-0 lead and that would be all Cole needed.
Dazon Cole was absolutely dominant on the mound as he pitched eight innings for the Chinooks, allowing just one run on three hits for the Bombers, striking out five and walking just two.
The Bombers scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the eight as after Alejandro Gomez reached on an error, he moved up to second on a passed ball. Nick Poirier pinch ran for Gomez on second, scoring on Daniel Patzlaff's single to cut the Chinooks lead to 3-1.
Keenan Bartlett came on in the ninth, relieving Cole, who picked up his first win of the season for Lakeshore. Against Bartlett in the ninth, the Bombers threatened, bringing the game-winning run to the plate, but they fell to the Chinooks, 3-1.
Austin Bueter took the loss for Battle Creek, falling to 0-2 on the year. Ritchie and Edgar Sanchez had great performances in relief of Bueter as they limited Lakeshore to just one run over eight innings pitched, keeping the Bombers in the game.
The Bombers fall to 17-16 on the year with the loss, while the Chinooks move to 13-20. The Bombers will look to split the two-game set against Lakeshore Sunday night at 7:05 at C.O. Brown Stadium with Scott Sency on the hill.
