Bats Come Alive in Win over Missions
August 3, 2018 - Texas League (TL1)
Midland RockHounds News Release
The RockHounds backed Brian Howard's third consecutive quality start with eight runs on 11 hits, adding up to 8-2 win in the opener of a four-game series Thursday night at Security Bank Ballpark.
Five of the 11 hits went for extra bases and three of them came in a three-run first inning. Eli White and Tyler Ramirez (RBI) led off with back-to-back doubles, with Seth Brown (single) and Nate Mondou (double) driving in the second and third runs of the frame.
Luis Barrera led off the second with a single and a stolen base, and scored on White's RBI single, pushing the lead to 4-0.
The 'Hounds doubled their advantage with a four-run fifth inning that included RBI hits from Skye Bolt (triple) and Barrera (double).
Howard took a shutout into the seventh before back-to-back leadoff singles from Austin Allen and Kyle Overstreet set the table for the Missions to get on the board. One run scored on a ground out, the other on a fielding error, meaning Howard allowed just one earned run. The 6-foot-9 right-hander is now 2-2 in seven starts since his promotion from (Advanced-A) Stockton and has lowered his ERA to an outstanding 2.36 (see below).

I'm Not Tim Kurkjian Or Anything, Just Sayin' ...
Richie Martin's steal of third (he then scored when the ball got away) was terrific ... Luis Barrera is a LOT of fun to watch ... and Nate Mondou's bunt up the third base line (right after Richie's thievery) was a Rembrandt.
