Bakersfield, CA - Sure, every week features Dollar Mondays, Tailgate Thursdays, Kids Club Festivities, and baseball fun, but the penultimate Bakersfield Blaze homestand of the 2011 season has a few tricks hidden up its metaphorical sleeve.
But tricks are no fun if they remain hidden, which is way today the Blaze are proud to unveil the first EVER Ken Griffey Sr. bobblehead doll giveaway, and an event known only as "The Oil Dig."
On Friday, August 19, the Blaze will be giving away Ken Griffey Sr. bobblehead dolls to the first 500 fans through the turnstiles for the Blaze game against the Lake Elsinore Storm (the Padres Advanced-A Affiliate) at Sam Lynn Ballpark. And, with the two-time World Champion at the helm, the Blaze will bring home a win for their manager and his likeness. *Note: Please contact Dan Besbris for a 'media use only' Ken Griffey Sr. Bobblehead*
Then, the very next night, the Blaze will try to one-up itself with "The Oil Dig," sponsored by Arco-ampm and Three-Way Chevrolet. Gas prices are awfully high, and the Bakersfield Blaze is fully aware that many had to cancel Summer plans. That is why, on Saturday, August 20, the Blaze will be burying $2,000 in gasoline gift cards in the Sam Lynn Ballpark warning track! All fans 18 and older (with signup) can help dig for buried "oil", with one lucky fan set to unearth the big whopper - a $500 gas card. Celebrate the Bakersfield oil culture by striking some of that sweet texas tea.
The remainder of the homestand includes Dollar Monday (the 15th ), Kraft Singles Tuesday (16th ), Goodwill Giving Wednesday (17th ), Tailgate/Thirsty Thursday (18th ), and the mascot Heater's 8th Birthday Party for the Kids (21st ).
The Bakersfield Blaze is a charter member of the California League, and the Class-A Advanced Affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.
