Salem, VA-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, used the first extra inning Tuesday night to eke past the Frederick Keys 2-1 on Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. Mark Ori's chopper into center field scored Tim Torres to send the Avs (16-20) to a second straight win over the Keys (20-17).

With one out in the tenth, Tim Torres singled to right against Jeff Moore. After Torres stole second, Jordan Parraz walked to place two on. Keys Manager Tommy Thompson replaced Moore with lefty Ryan Rodriguez with Mark Ori approaching. With the count at 3-1, Ori bounded a ball up the middle into center for a single. Torres came around to score the run-Salem's first since the first inning-and cement the win.

Salem's first run came across with two down in the opening frame. With runners at the corners, Pedro Beato uncorked a wild pitch that brought Jordan Parraz across for a 1-zip Salem lead.

Frederick waited until the fifth to counter. With Billy Rowell at second and one down, Justin Johnson bounced a ball to second that ran through the legs of Greg Buchanan. Rowell scored and the game was tied until the tenth.

The Avalanche starter, Hudspeth, went five innings and a third and did not surrender an earned run. The bullpen quadruplet of Chris Salamida, Erick Abreu, Josh Appell and Raymar Diaz did not yield a run in four innings and two-thirds. That stretches Salem's scoreless relief streak to 11 innings.

The Avs and Keys play again at 7:07 PM Wednesday night as Salem's Douglas Arguello opposes Frederick's Jake Renshaw.
