Austin Spurs Fall to Santa Cruz Warriors 111-108 in Overtime

AUSTIN, Texas- The Austin Spurs (8-13), presented by SWBC, fell to the Santa Cruz Warriors (11-9) in overtime at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park Sunday afternoon.

On assignment from San Antonio, Dejounte Murray posted a double-double, leading Austin with 31 points (13-23 FG, 5-8 FT) and 12 rebounds in 43 minutes, while fellow assignee Bryn Forbes chipped in with 30 points (10-19 FG, 7-7 FT, 3-5 3P) and 6 rebounds in 41 minutes. Center Cory Jefferson finished with 17 points (6-9 FG, 5-5 FT) and 5 rebounds in 27 minutes.

With a 17-point combined effort from San Antonio assignees Murray and Forbes, Austin led by 1 at the end of a close first quarter (23-22). In the first 3 minutes of the second, Santa Cruz quickly took back the lead scoring 3 three-pointers in a row. They led by as many as 10 points, but the Spurs fought back to close the half within 2 (49-47). The second half was a back-and-forth battle with 6 ties and 11 lead changes, ending in a 100-100 tie. In overtime, the game continued to stay close until Phil Pressey scored from beyond the arc to put the Warriors in the lead (109-108). The Spurs had the chance to tie it up at the buzzer, but Forbes' three-point attempt fell short.

Phil Pressley led the Santa Cruz Warriors with 27 points and 5 rebounds in 34 minutes, while Dennis Clifford contributed a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds in 31 minutes. Off the bench, Alex Hamilton recorded 19 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in 30 minutes.
