Sunday, August 21 - 2:05 p.m. CT

Silver Cross Field - Joliet, IL

Game #84 - Home Game #41 (49-34, 26-14)

Last Time Out.

Kyle Maunus hit a two run home run to put the Joliet Slammers (49-34) up for good and Ryan Quigley earned his Frontier League record tying 26th save in a 5-3 victory over the Traverse City Beach Bums (42-41) Saturday night. Trailing 2-1 in the fifth, Joliet responded as Hector Pellot started the rally with a double. He advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on an Erik Lis RBI single. Kyle Maunus followed with a two run jack for his 14th home run of the season and it was 4-2 Slammers. They would chase starter Bryan Banes (9-3) in the inning Tobi Adeyemi and Ben Hewett both singled with two outs. Josh Flores would ground out to end the frame but the damage was done. Kevin Crimmel got the victory as he went five innings, scattering seven hits, giving up two runs, both earned, walking two and striking out four. Ryan Quigley hit a couple batters but persevered to earn his record-tying 26th save.

For Starters.

"Captain" Jake Renshaw is tied for the league lead in wins with 10 and is coming off his fourth complete game of the year as he one-hit the Washington Wild Things in game one of a doubleheader on August 16. He went the full seven innings, giving up a lone run on one hit, walking four and personal season high eight batters. Renshaw has faced Traverse City once before, losing a 4-1 decision on July 24. In that contest he went six and two thirds innings, giving up four runs on six hits. Renshaw was a 10th round draft pick out of Ventura College by the Chicago Cubs in 2006. He was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 26th round in 2004 but did not sign. Renshaw spent two years with the Cubs organization and pitched two years at the high-A level with the Orioles organization. The 25-year old right hander put up excellent numbers last year in the Golden Baseball league as he posted a 2.39 ERA in 16 appearances

Approaching history..

With his save last night, Joliet native Ryan Quigley shares the league record for saves in a season (26) with Matt Petty of Windy City (2007) and P.J. Zocchi of Oakland County (2010.)

The .300 hitters.

Hector Pellot (.305) and Erik Lis (.303) are the only Slammers currently hitting over .300 this season. Joliet is hitting .262 as a team. While seven teams rank ahead of them in batting average, only four teams rank ahead of them in runs scored (400).

You the Manz.

The Slammers have struggled as a team over the past 10 games, only hitting .249. One big exception is catcher Trey Manz who has played in six games during that time frame and is 11 for his last 23 for a .478 batting average. He's also driven in seven runs during that time span, tied for most on the team with Erik Lis.

It takes two baby.

The Slammers' defense is third in the Frontier League in double plays turned with 77 on the season. Their team defense is currently tied with Windy City (.975) for third in the league.

Taking charge.

It's been more than a month (the end of play on July 8) since the Slammers took over first place by themselves in the East. They have not surrendered it since taking over. Joliet did not have a lead by themselves at all before July 8.

Pitching is the key.

The Slammers have the second best ERA in the Frontier League at 3.79. In addition, they've held opponents to a .245 batting average, the lowest opponent's batting average in the league. The bullpen has been especially strong, compiling an ERA of 2.80.
