Toronto Argonauts News Release

Mississauga - The Toronto Argonauts Football Club has secured a core member of its defence by extending three-time CFL All-Star LB Kevin Eiben through the 2011 season.

Commented Toronto Argonauts GM/Vice President, Football Operations, Adam Rita, "We are thrilled to have Kevin continue to be a valued member of the Double Blue defence. He is a team leader with a high football IQ, as well as physical and mental toughness. We expect him to grow in his leadership role in the 2009 season and on."

Eiben (2004-05) and the great Bobby Kuntz (1957 & 1961) are the only two Argos in team history to twice earn the Lew Hayman award as the East Division's Outstanding Canadian. #35 has been named an East Division All-Star four times (2004-07) and a CFL All-Star on three occasions (2004-05 & 2007).

Commented Kevin Eiben, "It's great to be back in Toronto for three more years. I've really enjoyed the past eight seasons with the Argonauts and I'm looking forward to getting back in the hunt for another Grey Cup championship. "

Eiben is already the third-leading tackler in club history with 494 defensive tackles, just 10 tackles behind Don Moen (503) for second all-time, but well behind teammate Mike O'Shea (822). He's the only Canadian in team history to put up at least 100 tackles in a season, and he's done it twice (110 in 2004, and 113 in 2005). Eiben led the CFL in tackles in two seasons (2004-05) and has twice been recognized as CFL Canadian Player of the Week and CFL Defensive Player of the Week.

The Argonauts originally selected Eiben in the fourth round (26th overall) of the 2001 CFL Canadian Draft out of Bucknell University. The Vancouver native worked his way onto the active roster and, after leading the CFL in special teams tackles in 2003, was named a starter in 2004.
