Richmond RiverDogs News Release
Richmond, VA -- The Richmond RiverDogs of the United Hockey League (UHL) are proud to announce that partial proceeds from the April 2nd ‘Battle of the Bands’ will be donated to the VH1 Save the Music Foundation. The VH1 Save the Music Foundation has pledged to restore music programs in more than 125 public schools this year, with each of these schools receiving $25,000 worth of musical instruments. Pledges contribute substantially to the Foundation’s efforts, delivering so much more than just the opportunity to play an instrument. Scientific studies show that children who play music display improved academic achievement, scoring on average 100 points higher on their SAT’s. Involvement in music is also proven to enhance social skills, like team-building and self-discipline.
Since VH1 Save the Music was created in 1997, nearly $30 million worth of musical instruments has been donated to 1200 public schools in 80 cities, improving the lives of more than 500,000 children.
“I am delighted that our April 2nd Battle of the Bands will benefit the VH1 Save the Music Foundation,” said Garrison Leykam, Director. “The partial proceeds being donated will truly benefit our regional school music programs.”
This is the RiverDogsÂ’ First Annual Battle of the Bands in their 10,000+ seat home rink, the Richmond Coliseum. As the RiverDogs battle the Danbury Trashers for bragging rights in the Eastern Division of the United Hockey League (UHL), local and regional bands will wage their own musical battle in between periods to score the coveted Best-Band honor with an exciting prize package to be announced. Competing bands will each be given their own promotional stands in the lobby to offer fans their CDÂ’s, touring & appearance information, bioÂ’s, merchandise and more. A stage is being constructed for the April 2nd mega-event and a special sound and mixing system.
Fans can go to www.riverdogshockey.com for more information on the Battle of the Bands as well directions to the Coliseum, seating, specially-priced tickets and more.
