Another Overtime Win in Pittsburgh

September 27, 2019 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Wyatt Schingoethe pulled Friday's game out of the fire to give the Waterloo Black Hawks a 3-2 overtime victory against the Fargo Force at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Pittsburgh during the 2019 USHL Fall Classic.

After the Force pushed the game beyond regulation, they had five of the first six shots during the extra period. However, a two-on-one breakout led to the winning goal, when Kyle Haskins fed Schingoethe, who roofed a shot over Cole Brady from the right circle with 57.1 seconds remaining.

Waterloo had also won in overtime on Thursday, 2-1 versus the Tri-City Storm.

Near the midpoint of the second period on Friday, Xander Lamppa planted himself at the top of the crease to score the game's first goal during a power play. Brehdan Engum's shot from the left point was knocked down, but Lamppa lifted in the rebound for the first special teams score of the season.

The Hawks denied the Force during a minute and 49 seconds of two-man advantage time, then built on the lead at 17:32. In transition, Lamppa's pass across the slot was intended for Ryan Drkulec, but bounced to Aaron Bohlinger. The defenseman joining the rush capitalized on a low shot past Brady.

Fargo rallied back even with two goals in 33 seconds late in the third. Aaron Grounds scored the first one at 16:37 when the rebound of his initial shot caromed in from the slot off a defender. Ondrej Pavel then tied it moments later, streaking into the zone for a shot from the right circle at a tight angle.

Next weekend, the Hawks continue their season-opening sequence of four consecutive games away from home Friday. A trip to the Resch Center in Green Bay that night will pit Waterloo against the Gamblers at 7:05 p.m.
