Andree collects shut out in opening game of the Battle of the Ottawa River

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GATINEAU - The Ottawa 67's won the opening game of the second edition of the Battle of the Ottawa River on Friday night at the Robert Guertin Centre in Gatineau, as Cedrick Andree stood tall and prevented a teddy bear shower with a 32 save shutout. In the 4-0 win, Noel Hoefenmayer, Joseph Garreffa (twice) and Jack Quinn were the goal scorers for Ottawa.

The first period was all about the Olympiques being frustrated by Andree. The Orleans native made a total of 16 saves in the opening third, with his team being out-shot 16-3 by Gatineau after 20 minutes. The rivalry game game was, just like it always is, very up-tempo and physical.

The Barber Poles bounced back in great fashion in the second period, as Hoefenmayer beat the Olympiques' goaltender Creed Jones with a perfectly placed slap shot in the upper part of the net to give his team a 1-0 lead, which would be added onto by fellow overager Joey Garreffa on the power play, as he only had to place the puck in a open net after a perfect pass from Austen Keating.

Gatineau would look to at least give their fans a goal in the third period in order to let their fans throw their stuffed animals on the ice, as it was their Teddy Bear Toss game. Fans would end up making it rain teddy bears, but it was after Joe Garreffa scored his second of the night in an empty cage, since Gatineau had pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker. Jack Quinn would add the fourth and final goal of the game, his 15th of the season, only thirteen seconds after Garreffa had made it 3-0.

The Barber Poles now lead the Battle of the Ottawa River one game to none, and will look to secure the trophy for the second season in a row with another win. The deciding game of the series will be held inside The Arena at TD Place on Sunday afternoon, with a puck drop scheduled for 2:00 PM, in a game that will be shown on national television on Sportsnet.

GAME NOTES

With an assist on the 67's second goal, Marco Rossi made it 50 points on the year, in only 22 games. (16G, 34A).

Special teams were a huge factor in this game, as Ottawa's penalty kill denied Gatineau in each of their seven opportunities, while they also went one for four on the power play.

Joseph Garreffa is on an active 10-game point streak, that has seen him collect a total of 23 points in that span (11G, 12A).
