Andre Tourigny Accepts Position with Ottawa 67's
Halifax Mooseheads General Manager Cam Russell announced this morning that Head Coach Andre Tourigny will be leaving his position with the Halifax Mooseheads to become Head Coach and VP of Hockey Operations with the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League.
"Andre was offered an opportunity to take over the coaching duties along with an increased role in the Hockey Department with the Ottawa 67's. We understand the unique opportunity that coaching in Ottawa and being reunited with his family represents. We could not have been more pleased with Andre's work this past season. The Halifax Mooseheads were a well-coached team and our young players developed well. I'd like to thank Andre for his excellent work with our franchise and wish him success in Ottawa," stated Russell.
Tourigny noted, "This was one of the most difficult decisions of my career. Although I am thankful to return home and coach a great franchise it is very hard to leave the Mooseheads and the group of talented players that have been assembled in Halifax. I would like to thank both the Halifax Mooseheads and the Ottawa 67's for making this move possible."
Bobby Smith, Majority Owner of the Mooseheads stated, "I was quite surprised when Jeff Hunt approached me about Andre's availability. After lengthy discussions with Cam, Andre and Jeff I am pleased to see Andre pursue this opportunity. I'd like to thank Andre for the passion and talent he brought to the rink every day. I wish him great success with the 67's."
Tourigny's Mooseheads finished in fifth place in the Maritimes Division in 2016-17 (27-35-3-3) before being ousted by Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the opening round of the playoffs. The search for a new Head Coach will begin immediately.
