CLEARWATER, Fla. - Drew Anderson delivered another dominant outing, leading the Clearwater Threshers in a six-inning, rain-shortened victory, 3-0 over the Fort Myers Miracle on Pitch for Pink Night at Bright House Field.
Anderson (1-0) held the Miracle off the board through his 5.1 innings, scattering three hits and three walks while compiling six strikeouts.
The 22-year-old righty has permitted only one run total through his three starts in High-A, spanning 14.1 innings for a minuscule 0.63 ERA.
Clearwater (19-10) moved into sole possession of first place in the Florida State League North, with the Dunedin Blue Jays suffering a 9-3 loss at Jupiter.
The Threshers capitalized on a four-error night from the Miracle defense to push home three unearned runs against Fort Myers starter Sam Clay (1-1).
An error on third baseman TJ White allowed Zach Green to reach to open the second inning, and Chace Numata followed with a single through the right side. After Derek Campbell dropped down a sacrifice bunt, Jiandido Tromp sent a sacrifice fly to center to score Green with the game's first run.
Malquin Canelo singled up the middle with one out in the third inning before swiping second base. Clay's pickoff move was fired into center for an error, allowing Canelo to move down to third. Scott Kingery then came through with a single up the middle to plate Canelo and make it 2-0 Threshers.
Mitch Walding reached on an error on the third baseman White, and an out later Numata shot a double to right-center to up the advantage to 3-0.
Anderson issued a pair of walks in the third, but from there launched a streak in which he hurled 13 consecutive strikes through a string of five batters. The streak was snapped when Daniel Kihle worked a full count, but Anderson struck out Kihle swinging and got Tanner Witt looking to end the inning.
Anderson exited with two on and one out in the sixth, and Jesen Therrien came on and induced a popout to second before striking out Chris Paul with a low slider to end the inning.
The Threshers tacked on a pair more off Clay in the sixth. Campbell beat out an infield hit, and with the wind pushing out to left Jiandido Tromp launched a two-run home run, his third longball in as many days. Tromp now has five homers with Clearwater and 15 total between the Threshers and Lakewood Blue Claws.
Following the completion of the sixth inning, the skies opened up and the game entered a delay of over an hour before the contest was officially ruled complete.
Clearwater will try for the series win on Saturday, when Ranfi Casimiro (7-6) takes the hill against Fernando Romero (2-1). First pitch is at 6:15 p.m., and all the action will be broadcast live on threshersbaseball.com and the TuneIn app beginning at 6 p.m.
