Mobile BayBears News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Hector Ambriz ran his scoreless streak to 16.2 innings as the BayBears squashed the Montgomery Biscuits on Tuesday 4-0 at Riverwalk Stadium. Ambriz combined with Clay Zavada and Daniel Schlereth on the four-hit shutout while the trio recorded 12 strikeouts to go with no walks in the club's fourth shutout victory this season.
Offensively, the BayBears (9-3) scuffled early against Montgomery (5-7) starter Aneury Rodriguez (0-3) who took a two-hit shutout of his own into the fifth inning. From there, a 3-1 fastball off the bat of Chris Rahl left the yard to put the BayBears up by a run. Mark Hallberg then walked and scored on a double to right-center by Pedro Ciriaco.
The bottom third of the BayBear lineup did more damage in the seventh when Rahl reached on a fielder's choice after a Yunesky Sanchez single. Rahl was knocked to the plate on a triple by Hallberg to make it 3-0. One batter later, Ciriaco singled in Hallberg to finish the scoring.
Montgomery only managed to send more than three men to the plate twice in the contest with four men coming up in the second and ninth innings. They never had a runner reach third and at one point, the BayBears' staff retired 12 straight until a one-out single in the ninth by John Matulia. Zavada worked two perfect innings while fanning four. Schlereth punched out a pair in the final frame.
Barry Enright (0-0, 2.70) gets the nod for the BayBears on Wednesday night for game three of their series in Montgomery at 7:05. They're back home this Saturday to take on the Birmingham Barons with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Call for tickets at (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
