A LITTLE TIME AWAY: For 22 consecutive years Amarillo hockey teams have had to vacate the Amarillo Civic Center during the month of November during the annual World Ranch Rodeo Event as well as other activities. Of the nine games during the month of November for the Amarillo Bulls, five of them are spent away from home including four at the Lone Star Brahmas. The lone other match-up takes place on Tuesday when the Bulls travel to Odessa to face the Jackalopes.
A TIGHT SOUTH DIVISION: Just five points separate first and fourth in the South Division through the first 8 weeks. The Shreveport Mudbugs and the Lone Star Brahmas are tied atop the division with 23 points each, followed by Amarillo at 19 and Odessa at 18. The Bulls have games in hand on all of the other teams in the South Division.
THIS WEEKEND IN THE SOUTH: It's all hands on deck in the South Division as all six teams will see action. The Corpus Christi IceRays play their first games at home at American Bank Center in a while with a pair against the Topeka RoadRunners. The Shreveport Mudbugs travel to Odessa to face the Jackalopes. Mudbugs Head Coach Karlis Zirnis will not be behind the bench this weekend due to his involvement Coaching the Latvian Junior Team. Jason Campbell will take his place.
FAMILIAR FACE BACK: The Amarillo Bulls welcome back Head Coach Rocky Russo to the bench this weekend after missing the past four games to be with family following the death of his father. Assistant Coach David Nies has been running the bench along with fellow Assistant Austin Sutter in Russo's absence.
STATS, ETC: One of the great match-ups of the weekend series features the battle of the special teams. The Brahmas and the Bulls (2nd and 5th) are ranked in the top five penalty killing in the league. Jon Russell is tied for first in power play goals with seven, while Brendan Michaelian is tied for the lead in power play assists with 10. Goaltenders Mitchell Gibson and Jason Grande are among the leaders in the league in Goals Against Average, wins, and shutouts.
